Training update

OK, since my last post I was sick so Wednesday I managed a feeble 2 miles basically so that I didn't get too far off schedule. Thursday however I couldn't run, too sick. Friday I went back to work after two days off and feeling rested after my sickness I managed 6.5 miles. Today Saturday I ran 8 miles, this leaves me 1.5 miles off my target of 30 miles. Tonight I can finish up. So despite missing a days running and only doing half a run one day due to sickness I managed to catch up and complete my target, phew!!!

As for the LA Marathon, I started to consider running it despite not really being ready for it. Yesterday was the last day to register but when I went to the site, they have a big animated graphic that reads SOLD OUT! I couldn't run if I wanted to, which I wasn't sure if I wanted to or not. Now I have to think about which marathon to run. There's the OC Marathon in May, San Diego in June, SF in July, NY in Oct, and Vegas in Dec. Of course there are probably tons of other runs, right now I am aiming for San Diego or San Francisco.

Training update

Yesterday was my day off from running. Today I ran three miles in the backyard before heading over to my dentist appointment. This brings this weeks total to 12 miles. The plan right now is to run 3 tomorrow, 3 Thursday, 5 Friday and then 8 on Saturday. It might be good to do 4 instead of 3 on one of those days to lighten the load on Saturday. My weeks ends Saturday and that would give me the 30 miles I had set myself for this week. On SUnday I would like to try and do between 11 and 13, a half marathon. This Friday before midnight is the last chance to register for the LA marathon, I kind of feel like I should do it and just clock a slow time. I won't really be ready but I probably in a similar shape to the last time I ran so if I could finish that would be enough for me. Then I could do another marathon later in the year when I have trained more.

Training update

OK, so Saturday I just had to get 3 miles completed to meet my Target of 25 miles for the week. Knowing that I had traffic school at 9:00 AM I got up early to finish of my running total. However, I struggled to complete 2 miles, I began feeling a little dizzy and faint so I stopped at my car after the second lap of the cemetery, 2 miles. I wasn't too concerned because I figured well I can make up the last mile easily in the evening. I managed to squeeze in the last mile in between bouts of rain.

Sunday I had decided to increase my long run distance from 6.5 for last week to between 7 and 9 miles. I had a hard time getting going. I slept in late around 10:00 AM. I must go to bed so to cut to the chase I managed the 9 miles without too much difficulty, I have almost started considering running the LA marathon very slowly seeing as next week end I plan on doing a half marathon.

OK, I will write more later must get to bed by 12:00 midnight.

Almost there

OK, tomorrow my day is going to be spent learning how to be a good driver, yes traffic school. I put in another 4.5 miles running today leaving just 3 miles for tomorrow, I am thinking I will get up early and go for a run to get the 3 miles done and then after traffic school try and do another 5 so I bring my total for the week up to 30 miles. Anyway, early night…night.

Training update

Yesterday I did 3.25 miles before going to teach in Long Beach. Today I did another 3.25 miles after getting back from the OC, bringing this weeks running total to 17.5 miles. 7.5 miles left to do in 2 days to meet my target of 25 miles this week. I intend to do 7 or 8 miles Saturday so, I should be able to get to 25 comfortably.

I did tonights run at a faster pace than I have been training at. I wasn't really going to focus on pace until I felt comfortable with doing much longer distances like 15 miles. However, it makes sense on these shorter runs to pick it up a bit and as an added bonus it helps keep the amount of time my training takes out of my day down. I have added weights, push ups and sit-ups to my daily work out.

I have improved my diet by almost totally stopping eating processed sugars, sweets and candy. I am also eating less meat. My diet is now primarily fruit and vegetables. I've also cut down on drinking fruit juice because I was gaining too many calories this way, I have replaced it with green tea and water. I never drank too many sodas so I didn't need to worry about that.

Th other discipline I am trying hard to practice is getting more sleep. I still need to improve but I am trying to be in bed before midnight.

I feel so much better in myself, more focused and more relaxed. I love this!

4.5 miles

I am keeping on track for 25 miles this week by doing 4.5 today. I did 6.5 Sunday to start the week. Monday is my day of rest so no running yesterday. I now have 11 miles this week, 14 to go including a possible long run saturday of maybe 7 or 8 miles. I have also started doing some weights, sit-ups and push-ups each day in an effort to lose weight.

Running consistently or variety

I was thinking today as I ran, I wonder if it's better to run in exactly the same way as much as possible during a run or to vary the style and approach. For some reason I always assume it's better if it's very consistent. I began thinking by changing it up and running using different. approaches could it help by resting one set of muscles and also help to avoid injury through repeated use. Does anyone have any thought on this?

1/4 marathon

My son's still in the hospital so as you can imagine this blog is not a high priority right now but I just wanted to note that I managed a 6.5 mile run today, matching my goal for this weekend. 6.5 miles is of course basically a quarter marathon, I didn't go too fast and it wasn't so easy so I have a long way to go but I'm pleased with my progress. With yesterdays 5 miles I totaled 11 miles this weekend my goal is to run 25 miles a week starting this week and then ratchet it up from there.

Training update

Thursday after work I tried running in the backyard, I was really exhausted but I thought I should push myself to run for a little bit so that i keep up my conditioning, unfortunately I was interrupted, after that I couldn't motivate myself to go back outside and run but instead just went to bed.

Friday, I woke up early and walked around the cemetery, I was going to run but I didn't really have time. In the evening I ran 3 laps, which is between 3 1/4 to 3 1/2 miles.

Today I ran 4.5 laps when I got a phone call to say that Vincent (my son) had to be taken to emergency. I ran back to the car completing 5 miles and then drove back to the house. I had intended doing 6.5 miles a 1/4 marathon but I'll try again tomorrow if everything is OK with Vincent.
